WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
This table shows the number of students who have
been temporarily dismissed from school or sent to an alternative
placement, broken out by the reason for the suspension. There are
a total of 40 types of infraction listed on the table. In the past,
only 12 categories of suspensions were reported, and a great many
suspensions were categorized simply as other.
WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR
The states overall goal is to reduce time
lost from school to 5 percent that is, the average
student would miss only one day of school out of every 20 school
days. An out-of-school suspension counts as time lost from
school. So the states goal is to reduce out-of-school
suspensions as much as possible, while still ensuring that all public
schools maintain safe and drug-free learning environments.
